Trusting the Universe sounds perfectly reasonable until life suddenly takes a left turn, cancels your plans, and leaves you wondering whether somebody upstairs has misplaced the instructions.

Florence Scovel Shinn would probably have smiled.

She believed that life was far more mysterious than most people imagined, and that what appeared to be a disaster might sometimes be an unexpected change of direction.

Which brings us to a fascinating new book by Keith Everett, The Beautiful Madness of Trusting the Universe, with its wonderfully intriguing subtitle, What If Life Knows Something You Don’t?

Florence would have loved that question.

What If the Universe Knows a Shortcut?

Imagine setting off for an important appointment.

You miss your train, lose your umbrella, and discover that the next service has been canceled.

Naturally, you assume the Universe has declared war on you.

But what if that delay introduces you to someone who changes your life?

Florence taught the importance of Divine Guidance, believing that intuitive leads could arrive through the most ordinary circumstances.

A conversation. A sudden idea. An unexpected invitation.

Of course, not every missed train is a message from Heaven.

Sometimes the railway company is simply having another spectacular Tuesday.

But perhaps life’s surprises deserve a little more attention.

The Beautiful Madness of Thinking Bigger

One of the book’s most interesting ideas concerns our relationship with money.

Suppose you lost $250,000.

Most people would consider that an absolute catastrophe.

But what if you were a billionaire?

Suddenly, the same amount looks rather different.

The book explores how the size of a problem can change depending on the way we see ourselves and our possibilities.

Florence believed that prosperity began with a different understanding of supply.

Perhaps the real challenge isn’t persuading the Universe to send us more money.

Perhaps it’s becoming comfortable with the possibility of receiving far more than we’ve ever imagined.

Seven Days to Break the Rules

Another fascinating part of the book invites readers to experiment with manifestation over seven days.

Visualization, affirmations, scripting, gratitude, and other familiar practices become a personal adventure.

Florence was particularly fond of the spoken word.

She believed that our declarations could help shape the circumstances of our lives.

But here’s the delicious part.

You don’t have to choose one technique and defend it as though you’re standing before a Victorian judge.

Try different approaches.

Enjoy yourself.

Discover what feels meaningful.

And remember that following an inspired idea is considerably more useful than sitting in an armchair waiting for a suitcase of money to fall through the ceiling.

Although the cat might appreciate the entertainment.

When the Wrong Way Turns Out Right

Perhaps the most intriguing theme in The Beautiful Madness of Trusting the Universe is that life doesn’t always travel in straight lines.

Sometimes the wrong turn introduces the right person.

A rejection encourages a completely different ambition.

An apparent ending becomes the beginning of something extraordinary.

Florence called upon people to trust Divine Order rather than insist that everything unfold according to their personal timetable.

And there’s something wonderfully liberating about that.

You can have dreams, make plans, and work toward them without believing you must control every detail.

After all, if you already knew every surprise life had waiting for you, where would the magic be?

Perhaps the Universe knows something you don’t.

And perhaps that’s the most exciting possibility of all.
